Climate Angels Fund made it’s investment debut with Beco, joined by a consortium of investors for the deal

Beco was founded in 2019. It is a Mumbai based climate tech D2C start-up targeting the $10 billion home and kitchen market in India through an eco-friendly and sustainable range of products. As a brainchild of three young entrepreneurs – Aditya Ruia, Akshay Varma, and Anuj Ruia, Beco is a 100% eco-friendly and zero plastic company. In the last few years, Beco has grown into a community of over 100,000 members helping reduce as high as 25% of plastic from their daily routine.
An annual investment of global venture capital has increased more than fivefold from 2013 to 2019, rising to $264 Billion by 2019. Total investments of $60 Billion have been made between 2013 and 2019 in climate tech start-ups. 1200+ climate tech start-ups have been identified by PwC with an annual compound growth rate of 84%. In 2019, a total of $16 billion were invested in 590 climate tech deals. The top hubs for investments have been San Francisco Bay, Shanghai, Beijing, Boston, Berlin and Bengaluru.
Climate Tech investing has emerged as a standout investing opportunity for the 2020s. Representing 6% of global annual venture capital funding in 2019, the analysis finds this segment has grown over 3750% in absolute terms since 2013. This is on the order of 3 times the growth rate of VC investment into AI, during a time renowned for its uptick in AI investment.
