India’s transition to electric mobility is well underway. But beneath the surface of this transformation lies a pressing challenge: charging infrastructure that meets the demands of high-utilization commercial vehicles. Fleets can’t afford downtime, and long charging times have become a key bottleneck to EV adoption in logistics and last-mile delivery.
This is where Exponent Energy comes in, with a bold promise: fully charging an EV in just 15 minutes.
At Climate Angels Fund, we believe Exponent Energy is building the kind of enabling infrastructure that can unlock the next wave of EV adoption in India. We’re proud to support them in their journey.
Solving the Commercial EV Bottleneck
Unlike private vehicles, commercial EVs run on tight schedules and thin margins. Downtime for charging cuts directly into utilization and revenue. Traditional EV batteries take 1–4 hours to charge, fine for personal vehicles, but completely unworkable for delivery fleets or ride-hailing services operating on a clock.
Exponent Energy addresses this head-on with an integrated solution built for speed, scale, and safety. Their proprietary ecosystem comprises:
- e^Pack: A battery pack engineered to support ultra-fast charging, with high cycle life and thermal resilience.
- e^Pump: A fast-charging station that can charge an e^Pack-equipped vehicle from 0 to 100% in 15 minutes.
- e^FleetOS: A platform layer that enables real-time tracking of charging, usage, and performance metrics for fleet operators.
This combination allows Exponent to offer what’s effectively an energy-as-a-service solution, where the battery, vehicle partner, and charging infrastructure are designed to work seamlessly together.
Why We Invested: Our Thesis
Our conviction in Exponent Energy stems from three pillars: team strength, strategic market focus, and technological defensibility.
1. A Team That’s Built Before
Exponent is led by Arun Vinayak, former Chief Product Officer and founding team member at Ather Energy, and Sanjay Byalal, an experienced operator with deep expertise in scaling supply chains and operations. Their core engineering team brings together some of the sharpest minds from India’s EV ecosystem, particularly from Ather.
This isn’t a team learning on the job—they’ve built high-performance EV systems before and understand the complexity of building a full-stack energy platform.
2. Focus on High-Throughput Use Cases
Many EV startups chase the consumer market, where adoption is still gated by price sensitivity and range anxiety. Exponent, instead, is laser-focused on commercial vehicles, 3-wheelers and LCVs used by fleet operators in logistics, delivery, and transport.
These segments represent just 10% of India’s EV count, but over 70% of total energy consumed by EVs. They are the ideal use case for fast-charging infrastructure: predictable routes, centralized depots, and high daily utilization.
By targeting these fleets, Exponent not only solves a critical pain point but also builds a repeatable, scalable revenue model.
3. An Ecosystem Approach,Not Just Hardware
What truly differentiates Exponent is their systems-level thinking. Fast charging is not just about battery chemistry—it requires tight coordination between battery design, thermal management, and charger performance. Exponent’s architecture includes:
Off-board cooling, which simplifies vehicle design and reduces cost.
Vehicle partnerships with OEMs like Altigreen and others, allowing them to embed e^Packs into EVs directly off the assembly line.
A network of e^Pumps, with ~30 already live in Bengaluru and plans to expand across other cities.
This full-stack control ensures reliability, safety, and a seamless user experience. It’s not just a battery. It’s a reimagined energy infrastructure for EVs.
Momentum and the Road Ahead
Exponent’s early traction is promising. Their e^Packs are already powering delivery vehicles across Bengaluru, completing thousands of 15-minute charge cycles every month. The company has partnered with logistics and EV fleet operators to prove out the model in real-world conditions, and the feedback has been overwhelmingly positive.
With expansion plans in motion, Exponent aims to replicate its Bengaluru success across multiple cities and vehicle categories, including electric buses in the near future.
At Climate Angels, we’re excited to support companies like Exponent that are building foundational infrastructure for India’s net-zero transition. Fast, reliable, and scalable charging is the missing piece in India’s EV puzzle, and we believe Exponent is on the right path to solving it.
